What a brilliant time we had, we sang songs and danced, met puppets with mystery bags, played with play dough, read books and learned lots too. All in 45 minutes- and then we got a little something to take home too! Needless to say my little boy was enthralled the whole time and we can’t wait to go again– Helen

What are First Steps Phonics Parent and Child Classes?

Children are most successful in their learning when they are engaged and inspired, and when their parents and carers are able to support them effectively. First Steps Phonics Parent and Child classes are 45 minutes weekly sessions that you can attend with your child so that you can learn phonics together, helping both of you to be better prepared for when your child starts school.

What can you expect from a First Steps Phonics Parent and Child Class?

Each First Steps Phonics Parent and Child Class incorporates a series of exciting, interactive tasks that will engage your child, helping them to develop key skills that they will need throughout their school career, whilst also giving you the opportunity to have fun with your child and learn techniques that will help you to support them once they start school. Sessions involve singing, playing, listening to stories and dancing. At the end of each session, you and your child will receive a free First Steps Phonics activity that you can complete together at home, supporting you in helping them to continue to develop their keys skills and consolidate learning from the class.

How effective are the First Steps Phonics Parent and Child Classes?

All of our First Step Phonics sessions are developed and delivered by a qualified Foundation Stage teacher who has over 10 years’ experience of working within Early Years settings; 100% of the children in her class passed their Year 1 Phonics Screening Check.
